The Rev. Sandra Bottoms
Associate Pastor
Sandra was appointed by Bishop Charlene Kammerer to the Brandermill Church in July 2006. Previously, she served four years as Associate Pastor of Discovery United Methodist Church in western Henrico County, VA. Sandra is a second career pastor... prior to entering the ministry full-time, she worked as a public servant in various management and program administration positions for Virginia Commonwealth University, and the Virginia Department of Corrections.
Sandra was born and raised across the river in Henrico County, but feels like an official South-sider now that she has a smart tag. She loves her role as Auntie to her nephew Jonathan, and as “Mom” to her golden retriever Madison (“Maddie”). When she gets the chance, Sandra likes to escape with friends to the Outer Banks, Sunset Beach, or Smith Mountain Lake. In fact, she once joked that she hoped that someday, when she is old, the Bishop will appoint her to a pontoon boat in the middle of Smith Mountain Lake (she is certain a boating ministry is needed). Sandra said that she thought God had heard her request when she pulled into the Brandermill parking lot the first time and saw the pontoon boats. Sandra considers the Urbanna Oyster Festival to be a National Holiday, and she is a serious Nascar Fan. As a Joe Gibbs Racing Team fan, you’ll see her, scanner and headset in tow, at Richmond International Raceway whenever NASCAR is in town.
Sandra holds a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University, a Master of Public Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Additionally, she served as a Chaplain, and completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at the University of Virginia.
